Consumer and Food Product Determinants of Food Wasting: A Case Study on Chicken Meat

Food wastage is an environmental concern worldwide, particularly regarding households. This study aims to identify household food wasting segments and assess the relationship between both consumer product determinants identified segments. Data were collected through a survey of several packaged chicken products (n = 256; 2019) in retail setting Belgium. Of participants, 36% reported never any meat. The average waste percentages small, 1.1–3.1%, depending on product, although they not significantly different products. Participants with low levels self-reported older, without children and/or unemployed. Moreover, their households scored better for routines skills. They also agreed more intend food, experienced stronger injunctive norm perceived effectiveness. Additionally, lower was discovered purchasing organic convenience grade shorter shelf life.
